Thissite to create a webpage seems very easy to use and navigate through. It has lots of templates and available help. The down side is all the popups put on your page that are hard to avoid and cancel. They make a large loop which become very frustrating. I would not recommend using this site.

This was my first in-service class in Billerica. I was really excited to take a class that would help to make the most of the laptop that I got in September.
I compliment you on your "take a risk" attitude as it was contagious. I usually play it safe especially with expensive things like cars, computers and cell phones. But being exposed to so many different web 2.0 areas, I explored a lot more that I would have on my own.
I had used windows moviemaker before but learned a lot from your student presenters who were great!
I hope to you use my internet safety project during Back to School Night with next year's parents as well as with my new class next year.
Maybe as time goes on I will be able to adjust to the idea of a classroom blog but I would be hesitant as it would be an open forum for parents to discuss classroom activities etc. Maybe I would opt to create a pageflakes page first.
Thank you for all your help.
Good luck with the rest of the school year and have a terrific summer!

Hi Carla,

I enjoyed the class. I really did not know all the capabilities and features which were available through Web 2.0 tools. I feel you did a nice job presenting an overview of some of Web 2.0 key tools. I’m looking forward to your Advanced Web 2.0 or Pod casting course.

I liked Google Earth and Sketch Up and I would love to find the time to incorporate both of these in to lessons and activities. I thought maybe I could use Google Earth to do price comparisons for a product in different parts of the world. Maybe I could do the cost of gas world wide. The know students would just love to use Google Earth! I could have them write their information right on the map.

I really liked Movie Maker and thought it was great that you had your students come in to show us how to us it. They did an excellent job! When I have time I’m going to try to put some of my European Trip Photos into a movie. Of course, you know I’m glad I learned about Google Notebook and the fact that I can now have an organized list of my favorite websites available on any computer.

Some additional features I’d like to use are Pageflakes and wikis. I think I’d like to set a Pageflakes page up for next September. I also would like to investigate Pod casting more. But what I really liked was the ability to have time to explore all these different tools and to see and get ideas from other teachers about how to incorporate them into the class room. I’m impressed by how many features you’re already using in your classroom. Your students are very fortunate.

Thanks for a fun and informative course!

Carla,
Hope you are enjoying your vacation. I enjoyed learning Moviemaker. I also do like how you created the blog for comments. I enjoyed creating my own personal blog. I do not feel that I could use one at the elementary one, but I have created one to stay in touch with family and friends. I do wish there was a little more concepts/ideas that could be used at the elementary level as well. I do have to say that it is great to feel more educated on the technology that is out there!

Hey Carla,

I liked a couple of things most about your class. First and foremost, I like that I feel much more "with it" about the web now. I kept hearing about blogs, RSS feeds, webquests, and so on, but I had no idea what they were or how to use them. Now I do!

I also like del.icio.us. As business teachers, folks in my department use the web all the time to bring the current real world into the classroom. We often find websites for other teacher's classes along the way, and having a convenient way to bookmark them for each other is great.

For next time, I would suggest having a small assignment to complete at the end of each lesson. For example for google maps maybe you could have students find and edit a map of their hometown and mark their house, their three closest friends' houses, their favorite place to shop and their favorite place to eat or some such. I wasn't always clear about the purpose of each tool and, of course, needed practice on working with it. Having an example to complete during "play" time would have been helpful.

Another thought I had that isn't exactly Web 2.0, but would be helpful with the class is to talk about searching the web effectively. I often get frustrated when I feel like what I want must be out there, but I just can't seem to find it anywhere.

Nice job with the class. You're a very approachable teacher!

Hi Carla:
As you know Pageflakes was my favorite site. It was just what I needed to update my old classpage. All my students and their families have enjoyed the videos of my classroom. I even did a private Pageflake site for my family.
I have used Movie Maker before --(I Movie)-- and found it easy to use and impressive.
As many have mentioned to you, we need written directions or handouts of the lessons. This will help us follow your fast pace as well as getting the most out of each class. We do need to "play" with a site to really learn it. However, anyone who has gone on the internet knows that one wrong click and you can land in unwanted and scary territory.
These directions can be only 5-6 steps for each lesson just to keep everyone on track, make goals attainable, level the tech expertise and make the class feel sucessful. With these, we could even explore the sites at home. Please consider it.
Next year please use sites that are not blocked by the Billerica School System. This was very frustrating. If they are needed for a lesson, maybe someone could come to the class to download them for all of us. Tech teaschers in the Elementary schools are available every other week.-- only if they don't have a computer emergency elsewhere.
I liked your Wordpress page and hope you keep it available throughout the summer. I want to explore many of the links and put the URL's in my favorites list.
Have a nice vacation and an awesome summer!

Hi Carla,
I learned many new uses for my laptop and integrating technology with curriculum. I especially enjoyed using Moviemaker and Pageflakes. I often thought about starting a site for my students to check schedules, assignments, and other classroom news. This was easy to use and easy to keep updated. It is a great way to keep parents connected as well.I am lucky to have a Smartboard available for use and the Google Earth is amazing. I have been able to use many of the features of Web 2.0 in class with the Smartboard. My students are very enthusiastic and eager to learn the new technology. As for me, it will take some time for me to feel comfortable using some of the things you taught us in class. But with practice I am sure I will be using more RSS Feeds, Notebook pages, tags, etc. Thanks for imparting your knowledge and expertise in the field of technology.
Thanks,
Eileen Cole

Not being on the same computer level as most of the other people in the class, I found it difficult and confusing at first. I did however, enjoy learning about movie maker. I actually had fun learning how to download my pictures and my videos. I felt a sense of accomplishment! I know that I will be able to use that in my classroom. Also, I feel comfortable with Pageflakes,I should be able to use that as a communication tool and Google Earth is amazing. I plan on reviewing and playing with everything that was covered in class in hopes that at least some of it will stay with me for next year. But, printed handouts would have been helpful to me!

Carla,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Movie maker was my favorite. I never realized the possibilities for school and home use. The RSS feed was another important tool I've been using to keep up with current information. Another tool I will continue to use is Google Earth. I find it amazing. The Smartboard was a fantastic way to communicate your knowledge. I loved the fact that you used students to teach us - once again proves how much we can learn from each other. You did a great job. Thanks for your patience. Next years class should be a breeze for you.
Thanks, Lori Arnold

Dear Carla,
Thanks so much for a great class. I love that I have learned so many new tools to use as I go alongin my teaching. I really wnt to incorporate a website/blog for my classroom. I think it is a great way to get my reluctant reader/writers to use their skills. The movie making is really geat! I can think of at least three ways to use that in my class. If only I could get my hands on a smartboard, I would be in heaven! I really enjoyed seeing how that works and it gave me lots of ideas. I think one of the features I will use the most is the notebook feature. I do a lot of research and I think that this will make everything so much easier to keep and access. I took lots of notes as we went along and believe me, I plan to play with stuff over vacation!! Thanks again for your great enthusiasm and ability to share with all of us, particularly the "special needs" among us!!!
