Social Bookmarking, a term coined by the social bookmarking site del.icio.us, is a way for internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of webpages online. Social Bookmarking technically began in 1996. However, it really took of in 2003 with the creation of the social bookmarking website Del.icio.us. Del.icio.us allows it’s users to share, manage, organize, and store websites online. No matter what computer you are using you can access your favorite bookmarks. This is great tool for teachers when using internet websites. You can also check out what other people are looking at online by accessing their bookmarks. The only downside to using social bookmarking websites is that you will need to download software from the website in order to bookmark your websites. The following websites are abroved by our IT department and you should have no problem downloading the software.
